Cala Martina
With only two guests as witnesses, this intimate wedding ceremony of four people on the rocks near Es Canar and Cala Martina was a unique and thoroughly pleasurable experience for us to photograph.
Near Cala Martina, heading towards Es Canar on the coastal path, is a great vantage point looking out over the Mediterranean and the coastline of Ibiza. This was the location for a very small wedding party of four. With just two witnesses, the two Glaswegian girls decided that Ibiza was the place to tie the knot. Same sex marriages are now commonplace and written into UK law.
And so we were kindly asked to photograph this small ceremony and the wedding breakfast afterwards at the Japanese and sushi fusion restaurant near Sant Llorenc. With much fewer guests to photograph, this was an unusual wedding commission. The focus was purely on the four people present. Undeniably, it can be much harder to create a story. There’s nowhere to blend in and so your relationship with the wedding party has to be natural. You’re considered a guest. Fortunately we were invited for a meal on the day before and we also had the pleasure of joining them afterwards so we felt had made new friends during the time with them.
We will be topping up the photographs with an underwater shoot tomorrow with the girls for a ‘Trash the Dress’ shoot. All very exciting!
