After speaking with officials in Times Square, we think we have captured something unique in New York. We were walking through Times Square around 8.30 am in late February 2013 as workmen were digging up the pavement to pump out excess water that was laying beneath the city street. This operation had created plumes of steam that were rising from the drains and heating systems beneath. Capturing a few photographs before the earth moving equipment moved in was fortuitous as shortly afterward the conditions had changed.
